Bio

Award-winning, children’s author, short story writer and freelance writer Andrea Rowe has been widely published. She is the best selling author of Jetty Jumping, the 2022 Winning CBCA Winning Picture Book of the Year – Early Reads, and the 2023 Australian Speech Pathology Picture Book of the Year, and 2024 Notabled Picture Book of the Year In the Rockpool (all illustrated by Hannah Sommerville, and published by Hardie Grant) Their right have been sold internationally.

Sunday Skating (illustrated by Hannah Sommerville) was released in 2023 in Australia, UK and Europe and launched in the USA in 2024. The first of her early concept Little Worlds board book seriesĀ  In the Rockpools was released in November 2023, followed by Amid the Sand Dunes in 2024 (illustrated by Hannah Sommerville) and there are 8 more picture books currently in production. Andrea’s manuscript The Everyday Tutu was acquired for the prestigious Little Hare illustrator prize. Her writing features in the Teacher, Teacher anthology with Affirm Press. .

Andrea was awarded the prestigious May Gibbs Fellowship for 2024, and is also the winner of the 2020 Hal Porter Short Story Award, Placed 2nd in the 2023 Mulga Bill Award and Highly Commended for the 2022 Newcastle Short Story Award.

Her works have appeared in several anthologies and magazines with her commissioned work. Andrea has also been a past Writer in Resident for Police Pt 2022 with Mornington Peninsula Shire.

Beyond the picture book, Andrea’s written speeches for Ministers and advertising campaigns, feature travel articles, award submissions, websites, newsletters and production scripts and the editor and content writer for several respected Australian not-for-profit newsletters, kids club communications and blogs.

A passionate advocate for contemporary Australian literature, Andrea’s the ‘author-in-conversation’ host with Sorrento’s Antipodes Books, and the Founding President of Peninsula Writers’ Club and the Mornington Peninsula Shire Mayor’s Short Story Writing Award, Books In Homes Role Model and a publishing Mentor for the Mary Lewis Trust.
