Over the years, writers have been obsessed with the tools of their craft, from the hand-cut quill pen, fountain pens, and typewriters. Now we need to use computers. They allow us to: be more productive; create and submit electronic manuscripts; and organise complex writing projects.
Many writers struggle more than they should, and might not be as comfortable with the basics of using computers and information technology. For example:
* Creating and managing writing projects
* Protecting manuscripts from loss and corruption
* Collaborating and sharing work with others
* Using tools to improve the quality of the work and increase productivity.
This workshop aims to provide a basic, but comprehensive, introduction to technology as the foundation for further learning and better writing.
Topics:
1. Basic intro to computers and the Internet
1. Computers and tablets
2. Files and Apps
3. The internet and the "Cloud"
4. Basic Computer security.
2. Word Processors: Cloud-based tools vs. local tools (e.g. Microsoft 365, Google Drive Apps, Apple Pages, Scrivener, LibreOffice)
3. Cloud storage options, file management, and version control
4. Electronic Style Guides and Artificial Intelligence
